Shillong, Nov 8: The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NEHU, Prof. Lakhon Kma, has issued a stern warning to disclose the alleged irregularities involving the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. PS Shukla. The focal point of contention revolves around the appointment of Rohit Prasad as Senior Technical Advisor, a position that, according to Prof. Kma, was filled without proper advertisement of the post.

Addressing the media, Prof. Kma dismissed the Vice Chancellor’s explanation regarding Prasad’s appointment, deeming it unsubstantiated and lacking evidence of compliance with UGC regulations.

“He (VC) might have shown a brave face but deep inside he knows that he is wrong. He has done a wrong appointment we will reveal it all maybe tomorrow itself”, said Prof Kma.

The JAC Chairman further said that the demands remain the same, and they will not stop until Rohit Prasad has been removed from his position.

“Unless and until Rohit is remove, whichever mode, we don’t care, how the VC removes him by termination or ask to resign. We don’t care”, added the JAC Chairman.

Prof. Kma further vowed that the JAC is committed to bringing to light all irregularities within the University caused by the Vice Chancellor’s actions.

“This time we have concrete information, that time when we submitted about Rohit we knew it was illegally appointed but with the RTI now we know exactly how he is appointed”, informed Prof Kma.

The JAC Chairman further alleged that the appointment of Senior Technical Advisor, Rohit Prasad is through an “illegitimate procedure” which has completely ignored the procedures laid down by the UGC.

“It cannot go beyond UGC regulations, when the rules and regulations have been laid by the UGC, nothing can go in between. Hence, this dossier we will prepare more pinpoint and more specific to the concerns authorities include the President of India to show that this man sitting in the Vice Chancellor chair actually has not been discharging his duties as per rules as per the acts. He has complete disregard to establish norms the procedures that we have whether it is the UGC regulations and all our own Acts, statues, ordinances and regulations ….this is what we will fully expose him….”, threatens Pro Kma.

JAC claims the NEHU VC’s limited appointment authority and can appoint only Professors and Associate professors

The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has asserted that the Vice Chancellor (VC) of North Eastern Hills University cannot appoint anyone by his own except under the provision of Statute 21 of the University Constitution.

Speaking to reporters, JAC Chairman, Prof Kma said, “It is very clear that he has no power whatsoever except under the provision of Statute 21 which refers to appointment of Professor and Associate Professor that also with the convincing of the Executive Council of the University”.

The Vice Chancellor can appoint any professor or associate professor under Statute 21 if that candidate possesses a qualification for the academic interest of the University, added Prof. Kma.

“Except this provision, in the entire NEHU ordinance the VC has no power to appoint anybody by himself”, he further added.
