Ampati, Aug 09: As the nation fervently approaches the 76th year of India’s Independence with resounding zeal, the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ festivities reverberated with grandeur in South West Garo Hills (SWGH). Under the theme “Meri Matti Mera Desh,” the district embraced the occasion with boundless patriotism and honour on Wednesday.
The Taljawa Lake in Kumligaon in the district was transformed into a tapestry of reverence and pride as the district commemorated the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav with unwavering fervour. The event, aptly titled “Maati ka Naman, Veeron ka Vandhan”, bore witness to the united participation of eminent dignitaries, including the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, and officials from various line departments. The local community also wholeheartedly engaged in the festivities, collectively paying homage to the nation’s indomitable spirit and the valorous souls who laid their lives for its security.
The ambiance at Taljawa Lake resonated with unity and reverence during the poignant event. The presence of the martyr police personnel’s families added a poignant touch, standing as living embodiments of the sacrifices that have etched our state and nation’s history.
Centered around “Maati ka Naman, Veeron ka Vandhan,” this year’s celebrations honour the hallowed land that witnessed countless sacrifices and the gallant heroes who laid their lives for India’s freedom. The focal point of the celebration was the act of planting saplings around the lake, symbolizing gratitude towards the soil that nurtured the seeds of revolution.
Attendees pledged to uphold the five vital principles (‘Panch Pran’) that form the essence of democracy, freedom, and prosperity.
The event featured a series of captivating activities that aimed to honor the legacy of our freedom struggle and the unwavering commitment of our police personnel. The unfurling of the national flag resonated with the echoes of our freedom fighters’ unwavering determination. Heartfelt speeches by the dignitaries underscored the significance of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in reminding the citizens of the sacrifices that paved the way for an independent India.
Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, RP Marak, expressed profound happiness that 11 martyrs from the district were being honoured. Addressing the gathering, Marak emphasized the need for collective teamwork to advance developmental initiatives. He urged government employees to recommit themselves to public service.
Superintendent of Police, V Kumar, highlighted that nationalism and patriotism embody our cultural heritage, unity, and values. He emphasized that these Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav activities would rejuvenate our responsibility in nurturing our nation’s strength.
The breathtaking backdrop of Taljawa Lake added solemnity, merging natural beauty with cultural diversity. The event not only celebrated India’s journey to 75 years of independence but also reignited patriotism and collective dedication to safeguarding our cherished freedom.
The event concluded with a heartfelt tribute to the martyrs through laid wreaths. As the sun set over Taljawa Lake, patriotic fervor and unity echoed in the air, an enduring reminder of the sacrifices that continue to kindle our nation’s spirit.
