SHILLONG, Nov 29: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday asked political parties to refrain from political blame game and instead work together to bring back normalcy in the state.
He was reacting to the demand for the immediate resignation of the Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui following the November 22, 2022, Assam police firing that killed six persons including five Khasi villagers and one Assam forest guard at Mukroh village.
“I personally feel that this is not a time to put political blame game on anybody or even try to look at gaining political mileage on the situation. This is a very serious situation which was really unprovoked and unexpected,” Sangma told reporters.
“Many steps have been taken by the government to normalise the situation and hence in a situation like this, we need to all come together and work together as citizens of the state,” he said while asserting “As leaders I think we need to leave the political mindset and political aspect behind us and really work together as leaders of the state to bring back normalcy and to ensure that we are able to improve the overall situation and also make sure that decisions like these like the BOPs and other measures are taken for interest of the state as a whole to avoid situations like these in the future.”
On the opposition AITC assertion for a President’s Rule in Meghalaya, the chief minister said there are situations and there are problems that happen but this is not the time to go into the political stands that we take.
“We need to work together and obviously we have seen even societies have appealed for peace. Even the churches and religious organisations have come together, different citizens and seniors have come together, traditional heads have come together and they are all urging that we need to work together to maintain peace.”
“This is not the time to go into the political aspects, elections will come and after elections we can talk whatever you want but at this point in time it is important that as leaders we need to be together for the larger interest of the state and the people,” he asserted.
