SHILLONG, MAR 2: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar on Monday said Meghalaya has completed 23,624 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban & Gramin) out of more than 25,000 sanctioned, with beneficiaries also receiving power, water and toilets through scheme convergence.
“PM Awas Yojana is a key pillar of social empowerment,” Kumar said after chairing a review meeting at the Tara Ghar state guest house, adding that nationwide completions have crossed four crore since 2014.
“No one should be deprived,” he said, urging saturation of entitlements.
He noted LPG connections lag behind and called for work toward 100 percent saturation.
The meeting, attended by state Adviser (Social Welfare) Paul Lyngdoh, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah and department officers, assessed centrally sponsored programs.
Kumar framed delivery as a “PM Narendra Modi and CM Conrad Sangma joint initiative,” describing a “doubled‑engine Government” and observing that “in several departments I have seen implementation is very good.”
On livelihoods, he referred to Viksit Bharat–GBC Rozgar‑Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) as part of the rural push, saying the Centre’s objective is to translate eligibility into “tangible improvements” through Centre‑state coordination.
