21-year old trampled to death by wild elephant in Garo Hills

Tura, June 6:A 21 year old man was trampled to death by wild elephant on Monday night in Garo Hills, Meghalaya.

The victim, identified as Sengkam R Marak, was returning home after attending a funeral service.

The incident is said to have taken place at around 11:00 PM.

Sengkam was attacked by the wild elephant on the road towards Alokpang, which is located across the Simsang river, and is approximately 30 kms from Baghmara town.

The elephant attacked the Sengkam after coming across him and trampled him to death before it returned back into the thick forests.

Meanwhile, Police have recovered the body.

Wild elephant are often seen moving across the vast forests of South Garo Hills in search of food. and frequent human dwelling during the dry months from November to May.
