Shillong, Aug 28: In a remarkable achievement for the State of Meghalaya, two young footballers, Manbhakupar Malngiang and Airborlang Kharthangmaw, have been included in India’s under-16 squad for the upcoming South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-16 Championship 2023.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced their inclusion in the 23-man squad list, with Ishfaq Ahmed leading the coaching efforts.
The SAFF U-16 Championship 2023 is scheduled to kick off on September 1st and run until the 10th in Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Team India finds itself grouped alongside Nepal and Bangladesh in Group A.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the next round, i.e., the semi-final in which Team India (if qualified) will meet host nation Bhutan, the Maldives, or neighbouring country Pakistan.
