Shillong, July 24: The inaugural Badminton Promotional Tournament 2025, organised by the Badminton Promotional Group, Shillong, got off to an energetic start on Thursday at the JN Indoor Sports Complex, Polo.
The three-day event was officially inaugurated by Dr. W. Kharshiing, President of the Meghalaya State Badminton Association (MSBA), who attended as the Chief Guest.
The tournament has attracted a total of 273 entries across six age and senior categories, including Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, and Senior divisions. Events are being contested in Boys’ and Girls’ Singles and Doubles, as well as Mixed Doubles in the senior category.
Day 1 (till 5 PM), 54 matches had been completed, with 48 more lined up for the rest of the day, covering all age groups.
Organising Secretary M. Iacais, Secretary T. Dienngan, and President K. Pyrtuh of the Badminton Promotional Group expressed optimism that the tournament would serve as a platform to scout and promote local talent, while also nurturing a growing interest in the sport among the youth.
The event continues through July 26, with more intense matchups and category finals scheduled over the next two days.
